After Fields had parlayed a steal in the backcourt into a free throw to tie the game at 45-45 with 45.7 seconds to play, Scott twice earned trips to the line after recovering loose balls.
Lutheran had a shot to tie the game on their final possession, but Richie Harkins' three-point attempt caught iron, and Kevin Johnson, who had recovered the rebound, couldn't get a shot off in time.
Lu-Hi had put itself in position to win the game with a second half surge, taking a 45-38 lead with 3:19 to play on a backdoor feed from Harkins to Matt Rooney.
However, the young team couldn't close the deal. A three-point play by James Southerland, who converted a baseline turnaround and was fouled in the process, had helped Cardozo pull to within 45-44 with 1:40 to play.
Junior guard Jeriel Henriquez from Lu-Hi led all scorers with 19 points (three three-pointers) and six rebounds.
Cardozo was led by 6-foot-7 senior Chris Abney's 15 points, including 7-of-9 from the line. Southerland added 12 points, shooting 4-for-5 from the line.
