A Look At The Game Of Jamell Cromartie

Reporter Brian Towey discusses the recruiting process of Jamell Cromartie ...

Jamell Cromartie, a 5-foot-11 senior lead guard/combo guard from White Plains High School in White Plains, New York, is leaning toward taking a post-graduate year next year.

Cromartie has received interest from some MAAC programs- St. Peter's among them- according to coach Spencer Mayfield. He is still open in terms of a prep destination, but mentioned St. Benedict's, Trinity Pawling, and St. Thomas More as programs he is looking into.

Cromartie has always struck us as more of a scoring guard, someone who is more comfortable off the ball, where he can hunt his own shot, and a guy who is a capable perimeter shooter. But according to Mayfield, he has made a seamless transition to the point this year, embracing a new role.

"He knows how to run a team," said Mayfield . "He can shoot the three. He knows who to get the ball to and where to go after he gives it. He can read a defense and find perimeter spots. He doesn't really lose the basketball; you don't strip him."

Cromartie is averaging 14.8 points and leads White Plains with 26 three-pointers on the season.

Cromartie scored 16 points and got to the line with regularity (7-for-7 FTs) in White Plains' 75-70 win over Mount Vernon on Monday.

Jamell plays with the Metro Hawks on the AAU circuit.
