Player Profile: Bishop Ford's Eion Lewis

Reporter Mike Sullivan examines the game of Eion Lewis of Bishop Ford High School ...

Bishop Ford has certainly been very competitive this season in the very tough New York City Catholic League. Based in Brooklyn where books and basketball are the top priorities, Bishop Ford has several players on its roster that are worth watching this season and in the future.

A player to watch over the next couple of months is underrated guard Eion Lewis, 6-foot-4 1/2 and 185 pounds. Lewis impressed us recently at the Hope Through Hoops Classic when Bishop Ford upended Carey High School of Long Island inside the Hofstra University gym.

Lewis scored 18 points, most of them around the basket. The coaching staff at Bishop Ford feels Lewis has many good aspects in his individual game. Among them: The ability to score anytime, explosive and smooth, and can take over a game.

In addition, Lewis' defensive skills are well respected. "He is long and that is an asset for him defensively," said Bishop Ford assistant coach Peter Goyco. "He can defend guards or big men without any trouble."

Lewis is open in his recruiting process. It will be interesting to see what schools take a peek at him over the next two weeks as the playoff season begins. But he has gotten some interest from St. Francis of New York and Albany.
