Island Point Guard Has Decent D-1 Interest

Reporter Mike Sullivan has a story on St. Mary's lead guard Scott Machado ...

Scott Machado, a 6-foot-1 lead guard from St. Mary's High School in Manhasset, New York, has pleased his head coach this season with his individual game progress as a floor general. And Gaels head coach Robert Jones has been one that has consistently praised Machado's game to us throughout the season.

As the season nears a conclusion, Machado will likely be an important player tomorrow night as St. Mary's battles its rival, St. Dominic's of Oyster Bay, New York.

"He has a college ready body," Jones said. "He's unstoppable on the drive to the hoop and off the dribble."

Scott is a member of the 2008 class. So he has some time to polish his individual game and skills over the next several months. How he performs in the spring and summer AAU sessions will likely determine the level of interest he receives as a senior.

"He has) interest from Rutgers, Clemson, UAB, Navy, Towson, Elon, Yale, Cornell, Hofstra," said Jones.

Jones has stated Scott is open in his recruiting process too. So it's a timeframe for Machado to show his skills and a chance down the road for colleges to evaluate him more seriously.
