Long Island Senior Open In His Recruiting

Reporter Mike Sullivan has the story on St. Mary's forward Marcos Tamares, a senior from St. Mary's High School ...

Marcos Tamares, 6-foot-6 1/2 forward from St. Mary's High School in Manhasset, New York, is hoping to help St. Mary's to a big victory tomorrow night at Hofstra University against long-time rival, St. Dominic's High School of Oyster Bay, New York.

It's likely to be a big inside the paint battle with St. Dominic forward Markeys Deans. Each of these high schools has had very successful seasons.

St. Mary's head coach Robert Jones previously stated he was a little surprised more schools weren't coming aboard to recruit Marcos. But there is still time for coaches to evaluate Tamares before the signing period begins next month.

Tamares is currently averaging 15 points and nine rebounds per game and a little under three blocks per contest. "(He can) can go both inside and outside," said Jones. (He's) a late-bloomer and steal for some college."

Jones also stated that his senior had some division one and division two interest. Some of the other schools that have expressed interest -- "Navy, Army, Dartmouth, Kentucky State, Towson, Boston University, Briarcliffe," said Jones.

Jones previously mentioned interest from Yale, Dartmouth, Binghamton, and Norfolk State.
