St. Francis Of NY Lands Quality Two Guard

Reporter Mike Sullivan has the story on Rocco Rubino choosing a school ...

Rocco Rubino, a 6-foot-1 shooting guard from Archbishop Molloy in Briarwood, N.Y., made a verbal commitment to St. Francis Of New York, according to sources close to Rubino.

It had been rumored over the past week that Rubino was leaning toward making a commitment to Brian Nash's St. Francis program. Over the weekend, Rocco decided to make the official choice.

Rubino recently impressed us with his shooting skills in the CHSAA playoffs, particularly in a game against Farrell High School of Staten Island. The coaching staff from St. Francis was on hand to watch Rocco play this game too.

It was previously reported on this website that Rocco had an impressive second session of the Eastern Invitational Camp last July. Rubino landed a spot in the 21-40 all-star game due to his exceptional shooting. He also competed in the Empire State Games in Rochester, New York, helping the New York City scholastic team to the gold medal .

BRIAN TOWEY'S VIEW OF ROCCO RUBINO'S INDIVIDUAL GAME: The native of Greenpoint, Brooklyn, New York is a proven scorer against a high level of competition. He can get in the lane and force defenders to play him honestly along the perimeter.
