Jones, the 5-foot-10, 165-pound combo guard from Rice High Schoool in New York City, was a big factor in help the Raiders advance to the CHSAA title game yesterday at Fordham. Rice defeated Christ The King on a buzzer shot by Kemba Walker to advance upstate for the next round of the playoffs.
But it was the great game that Jones produced on Saturday evening at Holy Trinity High School on Long Island against the talented Holy Cross High School squad that helped set up their road to the title game. Jones scored 22 to help Rice upend Holy Cross, 67-63.
Jones' big effort was helped by two three-pointers. Lamont did a nice job posting up and freeing himself from Holy Cross defenders to hit some big shots also in the second half.
Only a sophomore, Jones has plenty of time to polish his individual game. While he does this, he stated he is just focusing on finishing up his season and concentrating on his academics. "I'll think about recruiting later," he said.
