Albany City Rocks PG Has Excellent Season

Reporter Mike Sullivan has a story on a point guard who will play some AAU ball this season for Jim Hart's program ...

Mike Culpo, a 6-foot-1 lead guard from St. Andrew's High School in Barrington, Rhode Island, is expected to play some AAU ball this spring for the Albany City Rocks basketball program located in Albany, New York, according to program director Jim Hart.

A member of the class of 2008, according to Hart, Culpo had a solid season. "Mike finished up another excellent year at St Andrews leading his team to a second straight NEPSAC class B Championship," Hart said.

This isn't surprising to the reporters on this website. We had Culpo's last second heroics of a year ago in the NEPSAC covered. "Last year Mike hit a shot at the buzzer to give St Andrew's the NEPSAC title," Hart said.

This season Culpo averaged 15 points, five assists and two steals per contest. "He provided the leadership that led to the back to back titles," said Hart.

Hart likes several aspects of Culpo's individual game. "Mike is a quick and heady point guard with an excellent three-point stroke," stated Hart.

There are several schools starting to show interest in Culpo's skills, according to Hart. "He is currently being recruited by Rhode Island, Fordham, Boston University, Northeastern, Siena, Marist and Columbia," Hart said.

Culpo also has an advantage in playing at St. Andrew's. Head coach Mike Hart is highly regarded and respected. He is an excellent teacher of the game too.
