Big Summer Ahead For NYC Guard

Reporter Mike Sullivan has a story on a player from New York City who will play with the New York Panthers this summer ...

The summer is full of opportunities for players who will get an incredible amount of exposure. So it's a big timeframe for players like Josh Watkins, who competed this past high school season for Wadleigh School in New York City.

Watkins, 5-foot-10 and 175 pounds, seems to be equally skilled at both backcourt positions. The reporters on this website watched Wadleigh play a few times in the 2006-2007 season.

Watkins tossed in 18 points in a tough loss to Mount Saint Michael in one game. He showed the ability to get to the rim with his drive.

This spring and summer Josh is going to play for the New York Panthers AAU program. "We're happy to have him this spring and summer," said program director Gary Charles.

"He can set up players and he can score," Charles said. "He already has interest from some division one schools."

If Watkins can have a good summer, it's likely offers will be coming in. "Manhattan and Fairfield have been showing interest," Charles said.

Josh was a player that impressed us quite a bit this season. He is a very capable player that should fit in nicely for the Panthers this season. "So far it's been great with these players," Charles said. "They are all working together."

Watkins should be a big part of it.
