Panthers Forward Showcases Inside Skills

Trevon Wilcher was impressive this weekend at IS8 for the New York Panthers ...

New York Panthers head coach Nate Blue was very happy this weekend to have forward Trevon Wilcher aboard. "He's pretty good, a solid big man," said Blue before the Panthers met the New York City Finest AAU team in a pool game during the IS8 Spring League.

Blue was pretty accurate about the abilities of Wilcher, who produced 16 points, 14 of them right around the basket. And some of them were key points as the game only broke open substantially in the final quarter of play.

Wilcher, who is headed to the University of Massachusetts, is a fine pickup for the Atlantic 10 program. He works hard, battles inside for caroms and rebounds, and finishes pretty effectively around the rim.

Wilcher has spent some time playing for the New England Playaz AAU program. Now he has an opportunity this spring to make a contribution to the Panthers AAU team.

Wilcher had 12 of his 16 points in the first half when the game was a narrow spread. His ability to score inside the paint helped the Panthers stay with the very competitive New York City Finest team.

Blue hopes to continue to have Wilcher in his lineup. And who can blame him? Wilcher did a solid job for the Panthers in what is considered a final tuneup for most seniors ready to play college basketball this Fall.
