Walker Comments On Donovan Leaving

Reporter Mike Sullivan spoke to Erving Walker about his recruiting situation ...

It wasn't long ago that talented combo guard Erving Walker of Christ The King High School in Middle Village, New York was very excited about playing for Billy Donovan's Florida basketball program starting in 2008-2009.

Walker, a current junior and member of the 2008 class, had given the Gators an early verbal commitment. Walker, who has tremendous perimeter skills, spoke to us today before his game at IS8.

"I haven't spoke to coach Donovan," Walker said. "I have spoken to the assistants there."

This week Donovan decided to leave the college level to take a very lucative pro deal with the Orlando Magic of the National Basketball Association. Donovan had become college's hottest and most valued head coach after the two national championships the Gators won.

"I was hoping to play there," Walker said. "Now I will just wait and see who the new head coach is. Hopefully I have a chance to speak to whoever that is."

Erving left open the possibility to open up his recruiting process if necessary. "For now," he said. "I will wait and see."
