Mount Vernon Prospect Ready For Big Summer

Reporter Mike Sullivan has a story on Sherrod Wright ...

The basketball tradition at Mount Vernon High School is well known to the basketball fans especially here in the New York City area. The college coaches also are well aware that Mount Vernon High School is a place to stop each season to watch the amazing talent that comes through Bob Cimmino's nationally recognized program.

Mount Vernon's AAU entry into the IS8 Spring League once again had a successful run, making it into the final against the Juice Jr All Star team. There were many reasons why Mount Vernon was successful at IS8 as well as during the high school season.

And while Kevin Jones and Mike Coburn were the big names for the past year, keep in mind 6-foot-4, 175-pound guard/forward Sherrod Wright, a 2009 prospect for Mount Vernon.

While Wright wasn't the first or second option for Mount Vernon over the past year with Jones and Coburn being two of the major offensive players, Sherrod is a player that should be ready to elevate his presense over the next 12 months.

Wright has nice size and in the previous games we watched him play at IS8, he showed the ability to score around the rim when given the opportunities.

With the July evaluation period looming, it's a nice chance for Sherrod to move the forefront and become another one of the "great players" that have worn a Mount Vernon basketball uniform.

The area schools are already watching him seriously too. So it's a big summer ahead for the talented guard.
