Walker Celebrates Decision With Victory

Kemba Walker did a lot of smiling today at Fordham University. In the early morning hours he made a verbal commitment to the University of Connecticut. And toward the latter part of the morning he helped the Gauchos defeat the New Hampshire Playaz, 81-67.

"I was pretty excited when I got the offer," Walker stated after the Rumble in the Bronx pool game held inside the Rose Hill gym on the campus of Fordham University.

"It's a relief to get it over with. I am excited about being able to play in an uptempo offense. I like the style of play."

Walker plays uptempo all the time. It was due to the defensive pressure in the second half that enabled the Gauchos to sprint ahead for the victory. Walker finished with 10 points and several dazzling assists as he pressured the interior of the Playaz defense most of the morning.

Chris Fouch was very important too as was Durand Scott. Fouch scored 13 points while Scott came off the bench to add 12 points. Darryl Bryant also made a solid contribution for the winners by scoring 12 points.

The Gauchos led 44-30 after the first half. Charles Joseph, a wide body big man, played a key role in giving the Playaz many problems inside the paint. Joseph scored 11 points for the Gauchos.
