Lyons Gets His Share Of Points In Rocks' Win

Reporter Mike Sullivan has story on Albany City Rocks pool victory today at Rumble ...

Mark Lyons, a 6-foot-1, 173-pound guard from South Kent School in Connecticut, spends much of his AAU time competing for the Albany City Rocks basketball program during the spring and summer events. Lyons is currently playing for the Rocks at the Rumble in the Bronx held on the campus of Fordham University in the Bronx, New York.

Today, Lyons showed why Xavier offered him a scholarship. Lyons tallied 18 points to lead the Rocks past Team New Jersy, 85-72, in a pool matchup.

Lyons is an exciting guard, a fierce competitor with a nose for the ball. He is a great asset for the Albany City Rocks program because he has no fear when taking the ball to the rim.

BRIAN TOWEY'S REVIEW OF MARK LYONS' INDIVIDUAL GAME: With a biting competitive streak, a good feel for the game, strong ball skills and court awareness, and the ability to get to the rim with regularity, Lyons is a lead guard with much to offer.

Previously, Mark played for three years at Schenectady High School in New York before transferring to South Kent last Fall.

CONCLUSION: The 2008 recruit will be a terrific player for Xavier. He has a nice feel for the game and seems to do whatever is necessary to win the basketball game. He's a guy you want in a foxhole with you in a big battle. Has a great love of the game as indicated by his spirit on the court.
