Long Island PG Could Get Word Monday

Akeem Bennett, a 6-foot-2, 180 pound shooting guard from the Laurinburg Institute in North Carolina, is a class of 2007 player still in limbo ...

The native New Yorker is still waiting to hear from the NCAA Clearinghouse on the status of his transcript.

"I should hear from the Clearinghouse on Monday," said Akeem Bennett. "The main school recruiting me is L.I.U. I've also heard from St. Bonaventure and Quinnipiac. I really like St. Bonaventure."

A lefty with a junkyard dog-type mentality, Bennett loves contact. He's a physical player with a great motor who is very active defensively, racking up deflections and tips, and unafraid to challenge bigger players inside.

As he continues to learn more about the game and add offensive polish, he should be a valuable Division I addition, what with his energy and tenacity.

Bennett, a fifth-year player at Laurinburg this year for coach Marc Hsu, played his high school ball at West Hempstead High School on Long Island. While he waits to hear from the Clearinghouse, he's been running with the Long Island Lightning on the AAU circuit.
