New Rochelle Guard Has Some D-1 Interest

Reporter Mike Sullivan has a story on Simeon Marsalis ...

On every successful high school or AAU team a deep roster is very important to have a lot of success. For head coach Bob Rizzo of the talent rich Westchester Hawks AAU program, he realizes having a player like Simeon Marsalis on his team is so important to winning basketball games.

Marsalis, a 5-foot-11 combo guard from New Rochelle High School in New Rochelle, New York, is a 2008 prospect who has impressed Rizzo in his first year with the Westchester Hawks.

"He is a very athletic guard who can play both positions in the backcourt," Rizzo said. "He can shoot the basketball too and is very quick."

Rizzo feels Simeon's awareness on the court helps him in many defensive situations too. "He catches people off guard with his quickness," Rizzo stated. "He is just a very smart player who looks to make a play when the other team is not paying attention."

Rizzo has paid attention too in Simeon's value as a player for his highly regarded AAU team. "He helps us out in many parts and situations during the game," Rizzo said. "He helps us win games with his hard work."

Marsalis is not only smart on the court but off of it too, according to Rizzo. "He can play in the Ivy League or low division one," Rizzo said. "Maybe a St. Francis will look at him. Or some high division two schools. But he can play college basketball."
