The event is the 16 and under Super Showcase, played primarily inside the Milk House. It's been a place where many Gauchos teams have won titles and big games. But the big man from the state of Alabama was very special today.
The 6-foot-10 plus big man played like a guard sometimes and a big man most of the time. Cousins had a triple double -- 30 points, 21 rebounds and 10 assists.
All the Gauchos players could do was shake their heads and admire the exhibition put on by Cousins, who helped his team, the Birmingham Storm to a 70-62 victory.
The Storm led 18-15 after the first quarter of play, 34-24 at the half, and 54-43 heading into the fourth quarter. Despite the great effort by Cousins, the Gauchos willed their way back into the game in the fourth quarter, twice cutting the deficit to three points.
On the two occasions the Gauchos sliced the lead to a single possession game, it was a ramming dunk by Cousins and a beautiful feed by the big man to a teammate that squashed any momentum by the spirited New York team.
Bishop Loughin forward Trevon Hamlet had a tremendous game too. He had 20 points and showed terrific improvement in his game from a year ago.
Joshua Pritchett chipped in with nine points for the winners and was also a tremendous asset defensively for the Birmingham Storm.
