Mookie & Kevin Deliver For Westchester Hawks

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLORIDA -- It took a half for the Westchester Hawks to warm up their shooting shoes. But eventually the talented forward combo of Mookie and Kevin Jones were able to help the Hawks to a 61-46 victory over the Alabama Lasers in a first round pool game at the Wide World of Sports complex on the grounds of Disney World.

The Hawks and Lasers, both in the category Gold division, are considered among the best AAU teams from their respective areas. The Lasers have some big time talent and size on their roster too, including Bawa Manuri, a 6-11 2008 prospect from Madison Academy.

Without Sean Kilpatrick, Alberto Estwick, and A.J. Rogers, Westchester managed to forge a two-point lead, 32-30, heading into the third quarter after trailing 20-13 after the first eight minutes of play.

Mookie Jones was especially special. He rarely made a mistake in handling the ball and only shot when he had his opportunity. Mookie led his team with 22 points while Kevin Jones recorded 15 points. Jones also had to defend against the big man from the Lasers and did a very admirable job.

The Hawks did pull away in the third quarter. They lead 50-37 heading into the fourth quarter after Mookie, Kevin and Trinity Fields did the bulk of the scoring. Fields had 11 points for the winners.

Westchester has two more pool games to play. We will keep you up to date on their results over the next 24 hours.
