OSNA's Benitez Needs A Junior College

Reporter Brian Towey has a story on Enrique Cova Benitez ...

Enrique Cova Benitez, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound point guard from Our Savior New American in Centereach, N.Y., is a class of 2007 holdover still looking for a home. The native of Caracas, Venezuela, needs to attend a junior college, and is still available.

"He's a defensive stopper, a team-first player; he knows how to play the game and get the ball to the right people," said OSNA assistant coach Eric Jaklitsch, who, along with Chris Phillips, coaches Benitez with the New York Elite AAU program. "He'll do anything the team needs to do to win."

Benitez is a Division I-caliber point who received limited exposure during the high school season due to injuries. An ankle injury in the team's first game of the year kept him out of action until after the new year.

A pass-first point guard, Benitez can run a team and distribute it. He's a big-bodied lead guard with strong vision and a good head for the game.

Benitez impressed in a late-season loss to St. Anthony of Jersey City in February.

Enrique averaged 10 points, seven assists, and four rebounds this season for coach Ron Stelzer.
