Peekskill Prospect Cuts List Down To Six

Reporter Mike Sullivan has the story on Mookie Jones and his recruiting process ...

Mookie Jones, a 6-foot-6 1/2 swingman from Peekskill High School in Peekskill, New York, said he has narrowed his list of schools down to six. Jones spoke to us via a telephone interview.

"I am down to Syracuse, Michigan, Marquette, Kansas, Rutgers, and DePaul," Jones said tonight. "I don't have a leader right now. But I plan on having in home visits with all the schools."

Mookie said that he decided to narrow the list down after speaking with his coaches at Peekskill and his family. "We considered a lot of things," he said. "The academics, the graduation rate, the coaches, the players on the team...there were a lot of things I looked at..."

Mookie, a terrific 2008 prospect, is perhaps the best overall player in the New York area. Certainly, players like Kemba Walker, Kevin Jones, Sylven Landesberg, etc deserve this type of noteworthy consideration.

Jones had a wonderful summer playing for Rob Rizzo and Tom Jenning's Westchester Hawks AAU program. It was his performance at the Wide World of Sports Complex inside the Milk House that elevated his status on a national level. But basketball people like Rizzo and Jennings already knew that Mookie was a big time player.

"I hope to set up visits once I get back to school and talk to my coach," Mookie said. "Hopefully I can start doing that in the next week."

*There has been some speculation that St. John's and Miami of Florida could be added to the list. We will keep an eye on this possibility as anything can change when it comes to the recruiting process of a very talented player such as Mookie Jones.
