Mookie Talks About Rutgers Visit

Reporter Mike Sullivan has the story on Mookie Jones of Peekskill High School ...

Mookie Jones, a 6-foot-6 1/2 forward from Peekskill High School in Peekskill, New York, said his unofficial visit to Rutgers late last week was good.

"We had a chance to talk to the coaches," Jones said. "We also had a chance to watch the football game."

Mookie said he likes the game of football and even played it at one time in his life. But it's obvious that basketball is his best sport as indicated by his outstanding summer with the Westchester Hawks AAU program run by Tom Jennings and Rob Rizzo (head coach).

While Mookie on the Scarlet Knights' campus, Rutgers defeated Navy. "The crowd was into the game," Jones said. "It was good to be there and see the campus going and the support they have."

Rutgers had several players in for the football game. "I am just getting ready for the in home visits," he said.

Several teams over the next couple of weeks will try to impress Jones with their individual presentations. Mookie lists DePaul, St. John's, Syracuse, Marquette, Rutgers, Michigan, and Kansas.

"I don't have a leader," Mookie said. "I won't know when I will visit until after my in homes visits are over."

Mookie has been competing with the Peekskill team at IS8 too on weekends. He is scheduled to play again in the South Jamaica, Queens gym this upcoming Saturday. He might take an unofficial visit to St. John's that day too since the campus is only a mile or two away.
