Pearson's Monster Game Not Enough At IS8

Reporter Mike Sullivan has story on Playaz Club win at IS8 ...

SOUTH JAMAICA, NEW YORK -- Jio Fontan scored 18 points and teammate Allan Chaney added 15 points to help the Playaz Club of New Jersey overcome a big time game by Ryan Pearson and Team Odom, 81-79, in an IS8 playoff quarterfinal game played this morning.

The Playaz Club Seniors appeared to have complete control heading into the fourth quarter. The Playaz led 66-53 with eight minutes to play. Then Pearson, the lefty with nifty moves around the basket, just erupted.

Pearson, 6-foot-5 1/2, played like a 7-footer. He willed is team back into the game in the final quarter. Several times in the final quarter, Team Odom had cut the deficit to two points. And it was usually Pearson around the basket that helped Team Odom with its points in the fourth.

Pearson, who has given a verbal commitment to George Mason, showed why he is skilled enough to score on big bodies around the basket. He finished the game with 32 points.

But Fontaine (committed to Fordham), Chaney (verbal to Florida), and Mike Rosario (will sign with Rutgers) were solid too.

Rosario played a smart floor game and scored 14 points for the winners. While Pearson was scoring at will, the balanced attack of the Playaz was more than enough to offset the great individual effort from Ryan.

Sean Johnson also sparkled for Team Odom in the defeat. He scord 19 points while Ryan Davis buried three three-pointers for nine points.
