New Jersey Forward Elevates His Play At IS8

Reporters Mike Sullivan and Frank Mantesta have story on Chris Gaston ...

The IS8 Fall League is a great opportunity especially for the local players to showcase their skills against the best talent in the New York City area.

And a player by the name of Chris Gaston, a 6-foot-7, 205-pound forward from St. Benedict's High School in Newark, New Jersey, certainly delivered some solid performances while playing for Jimmy Salmon's Playaz Club AAU program.

"I am trying to work on all parts of my game," Gaston said. "But I am really focusing on getting stronger to help myself be better inside."

Gaston stated again this past weekend that he is open in his recruiting process. But he has mentioned interest in Robert Morris, Drexel, St. Peter's, Virginia, Temple, Rutgers, Rhode Island, and Xavier.

Below is the latest thoughts from Frank Mantesta:

Nobody had to tell Chris Gaston of St. Benedict's and the Playaz Club about this recent battle with Shooting Stars' big man Samardo Samuels. He plays against him every day in practice.

Chris is working out every day hoping to build upper body strength. He is in the process of making it happen.

At IS8 in the playoffs, Chris battled Samuels as well as Ed Davis and Devin Ebanks all day in the championship game.

Chris a quick jumper and was able to get to rebounds because of his agility and foot speed. He also showed an incredible heart in going up against these two future pros.

Gaston's main concern right now is prepping for the SAT. "I'm working on school right now to make sure I qualify when the time comes," he stated.
