HIGH SCHOOL: Archbishop Molloy High School in Briarwood, New York
HIGH SCHOOL HEAD COACH: Jack Curran
AAU TEAM: New York City Gauchos
CLASS: 2009, A Rising Junior
POSITIONS: Point Guard/Shooting Guard
STRENGTHS: His energy. His speed. His quickness. From one endline to the other, Russell Smith has the ability to beat you downcourt with his dribble. His speed allows Molloy to elevate their offense and produce points in a hurry.
AREAS TO IMPROVE IN: His decision making will be the most area to improve on in the next couple of years. If he does improve his area, Smith will be offered by many college programs because his strengths are so attractive.
CONCLUSION: Archbishop Molloy has one of the richest traditions not only in the New York City area but on a national scale. With legendary coach Jack Curran still making the decisions, the Stanners are a challenge for any opponent.
And having a player like Russell Smith makes them tough to defend. And when Smith utilizes the floor and his vision and involves his teammates offensively, the Stanners are a team that will win many basketball games this season.
