OSNA Captures Own Tourney Behind Leek Leek

Reporter Mike Sullivan has the story on Our Savior New American's tourney victory ...

CENTEREACH, NEW YORK -- Leek Leek provided skills from the perimeter and athletic excitement near the rim in helping Our Savior New American hold off a very tough Boys Club of New York team, 63-58, to capture the invitational tournament held in the Pioneers' home gym.

Leek Leek scored 13 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked four shots, one that kept the crowd buzzing for a good five minutes.

Leek went up to challenge a dunk attempt by Sammy Obetoh. Leek caught the attempt as Obetoh's hands stretched to the middle of the box of the glass. The crowd roared and buzzed for the next several minutes. It was simply a big time athletic play.

This junior forward is one terrific athlete who is working hard on improving his perimeter skills. They are improving based upon his efforts recently.

Playing without outstanding two guard Gerardo Suero, the Pioneers held a 14-9 lead after the first eight minutes of play.

OSNA increased the advantage to 33-23 at the half. But a solid effort by the Boys Club of NY helped reduce the lead to 43-41 heading into the final quarter.

Sean Atkins' Boys Club of New York team was impressive and well coached. Efforts by Andy Garcia (13 points) and Sammy Obetoh (10 points) gave Atkins' team a chance to win this game.

But some key help from Ishaq Pitt (13 points), Deng Leek (nine points), and Rayner Moquete (10 points) sparked OSNA to a very tough victory in the championship game held on Saturday night on Long Island before a gym filled with people.
