Landesberg Sparks Holy Cross Victory

Reporter Frank Mantesta has the story on Holy Cross' victory ...

Sylven Landesberg scored 23 points and Kayvon Roberts had 15 of his 20 points in the first half to help Holy Cross rebound from a tough loss last Friday at St. Raymond's with an impressive 66-47 victory over Xaverian High School of Brooklyn, New York.

Holy Cross had a 34-23 after the first two uquarters of play. Xaverian High School was led by Matt Troisi's 17 points and Rasheem King's 14.

"I thought we got a lot of good looks, but our shots just didn't fall," Xaverian head coach Jack Alesi said following the game. "We wanted to be deliberate on offense and I thought we did that."

Coach Paul Gilvary of Holy Cross echoed those setiments: "We are pretty skilled offensively, so for us to be really good, we have to defend the ball.

"Tonight was a good test for us because Xaverian really ran their sets and executed well. We had to hold our defensive positioning longer in the shot clock."

So two game plans were executed but in the end Holy Cross was just better skilled on this night. And they have a terrific player in Virginia recruit Landesberg and a very good supporting player in Roberts.
