High D-1 Schools Show Interest In NYC Guard

Reporter Mike Sullivan has a profile update on talented guard Russell Smith ...

PLAYER PROFILE: Russell Smith

HEIGHT: 5-foot-11

WEIGHT: 165 Pounds

HIGH SCHOOL: Archbishop Molloy High School in Briarwood, New York

HIGH SCHOOL HEAD COACH: Jack Curran

AAU TEAM: New York City Gauchos

CLASS: 2009, A Current Junior

POSITIONS: Point Guard/Shooting Guard

EVALUATION OF RUSSELL SMITH'S INDIVIDUAL GAME: The Molloy guard knows one speed -- fast. He is able to sprint by defenders with his dribble and stagger a defender with some shake and bake.

Russell has an exciting individual game and is more productive this season than ever before. As a starter, he is the most dangerous player on the court for Jack Curran's Stanners.

He has produced a better floor game now that he is given most of the minutes at the lead guard position for Molloy.

SCHOOLS OF INTEREST: It's early in his recruiting process. But the list is extensive. Minnesota, Hofstra, Louisville, Georgia Tech, Iona, Seton Hall, Rutgers, Fordham, George Mason, Connecticut, Minnesota, Stanford, Syracuse, and Manhattan.
