Pearson Helps CTK Advance To CHSAA Final

Reporter Mike Sullivan has story of the Royals playoff victory ...

Ryan Pearson scored 23 points last night to lead Christ The King High School past Bishop Loughlin High School, 69-56, in a CHSAA "AA" semifinal game held on the campus of St. John's University.

Pearson, a lefty agile forward for the Royals who has committed to George Mason, helped Bob Oliva's program forge an immediate 17-13 lead after the first quarter of play by producing seven points, including a three-pointer.

At the half, CTK held a 33-25 advantage as Pearson added four more points in the second quarter. When Loughlin would make a push, there were other Royals that stepped up. In the third quarter, CTK big man Roland Brown scored eight points to keep the Royals lead at eight -- 47-39.

Sean Johnson also had a solid game for Christ The King (22-5). Sean knocked down three three-pointers in the game and finished with 14 points. Many of his baskets came at key times too, cutting short any Lions' momentum.

Kevin Phillip had a big game for Loughlin (21-6). His short range perimeter game sparkled. He recorded 17 points while Doron Lamb scored 13 points.

Christ The King will face Holy Cross High School this Sunday at Fordham for the championship.
