WEIGHT: 172 Pounds
HIGH SCHOOL: Bishop Maginn High School in Albany, New York
AAU PROGRAM: Albany City Rocks
AAU PROGRAM DIRECTOR: Jim Hart
CLASS: 2010, A current sophomore
POSITIONS: Point Guard/Shooting Guard
STRENGTHS IN HIS INDIVIDUAL GAME: Taran continues to improve in the consistency department. In the recent playoffs, Taran showed the ability to score from several areas on the floor.
He has always been an aggressive guard. It appears he is making sure he takes care of the rock better too.
FRANK MANTESTA'S PREVIOUS EVALUATION OF TARAN BUIE'S INDIVIDUAL GAME: Taran is a combo guard who as he continues to grow physically might be better suited to play the shooting guard position down the road.
Buie also has a very high Basketball IQ. He possesses a nice pull up jumper off either one or two dribbles. Taran is able to get his own shot off or get to the basket and finish.
Buie has also improved over the past year as a defender.
COLLEGES/UNIVERSITIES OF INTEREST: Georgia Tech was the latest school to offer a scholarship. It appears Paul Hewitt is very serious about landing Buie and making him a big part of the program starting in the 2010-2011 season. But there is plenty of competition for the former Westbury, Long Island resident.
St. John's, Fordham, Penn State, Virginia Tech, Kansas State, Xavier, Massachusetts, Georgetown, Seton Hall, Marist, Siena, Ohio State, Virginia, Providence, Syracuse, and Florida State have all expressed early interest.
