Mount Vernon Senior Ready For Big East Hoops

Reporter Mike Sullivan has the story on West Virginia recruit Kevin Jones ...

The month of July will be the start of a transition period for Kevin Jones, a 6-foot-7 forward from Mount Vernon High School in Mount Vernon, New York. The senior will begin his academic career at West Virginia.

"Kevin's excited about playing for Bob Huggins," his brother Gerard said. "Coach Huggins loves Kevin too based on him committing to him before he even coached a game at West Virginia."

Gerard also stated Kevin will start summer school in July at West Virginia. "It's a great opportunity for Kevin," Gerard said. "He has a chance for a college education and also play under a great coach."

Jones will also compete in the spring league at IS8 in South Jamaica, New York for Mount Vernon. "It's a last chance for Kevin to play with his friends and teammates," Gerard said.

Jones will also play in the Michael Jordan regional All Star game on April 19th at Madison Square Garden in New York City. "He's excited about that too," Gerard said.

Kevin recently received an honor, being named to the Parade All American team. He was on the fourth team.

PREVIOUS EVALUATION ON KEVIN JONES' INDIVIDUAL GAME: Kevin is a versatile forward who is effective around the rim when he uses his long arms and his soft touch to float successful shots over his defenders. He has been working hard on his footwork and his perimeter game, at times demonstrating three-point skills.

Kevin had an outstanding spring and summer action for Tom Jennings' and Rob Rizzo's Westchester Hawks AAU program.
