James Tchana is coming back to Long Island.

After three years at Fresno St., Tchana, a 6-foot-8, 275-pound post player and former standout at Our Savior New American will transfer to Division II C.W. Post in Brookville, N.Y.

"I'm going to C.W. Post," said Tchana. "I'm excited about it."

A native of Douala, Cameroon, Tchana appeared in 15 games as a redshirt sophomore during the 2007-2008 season, averaging 1.2 points and 0.6 rebounds.

"I will have two years to play at Post," said Tchana. "I took a redshirt year (last year). It was a legitimate redshirt situation, a medical situation. I've spoken with the people in academic services (at Fresno St) and they think I will have no trouble getting the year back."

Tchana left the Western Athletic Conference program in the hopes of finding more playing time. He is confident that his work ethic will lead to a prominent role in his new program.

"I had to go to a place where I could show what I could do," said Tchana. "Knowing that I'm a hard worker, I'm going to take that work ethic with me wherever I go and it's going to carry me. I thought this was a good situation for me to take my game to the next level."

Tchana earned Academic All-WAC honors this past year.

"James has been an outstanding student-athlete and a role model for this program," Fresno head coach Steve Cleveland said in a statement.

"This is a great opportunity for James to play significant minutes at another level of collegiate basketball. He has a great work ethic and he is on track to graduate in the spring of 2009. It's been a privilege for me to associate with a young man with such high character on a daily basis."

C.W. Post finished with a 26-5 record this season, advancing to the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional.
