Former W Hempstead Star Lands Hoops Gig

Reporter Brian Towey has a free story on the status of Shahee Martin ...

Shahee Martin, 6-foot-5, 230-pound small forward from Central Florida Community College in Ocala, Fla., has signed with Warner Southern, an NAIA program in Lake Wales, Fla., according to his coach, Tim Ryan.

Martin, a native of Jamaica, Queens, averaged 11.7 points and 4.2 rebounds this season as a sophomore, shooting 46 percent from 3-point range and 42 percent from the field. He helped Central Florida to the Mid-Florida Conference championship and a berth in the NJCAA Florida state tournament.

"He's a great kid," said Ryan. "He was first team all-conference. He shot 52 percent from three in conference play. He had a great conference showing.

"He's a scorer and at that level he's going to be very good. He's an all-league player at that level."

Martin came to Central Florida from New Horizon Academy in Danville, Va. Prior to that he was a standout at West Hempstead High School on Long Island. Originally, Martin attended Paramus Catholic High School in Paramus, N.J.
