UCONN Transfer Weighing All Options

Reporter Brian Towey has the story on Doug Wiggins ...

UConn guard Doug Wiggins is in the thick of the transfer process. The sophomore met with coaches from several Atlantic 10 programs on Tuesday, and may connect with coaches from some other schools on Wednesday.

"We had LaSalle, Rhode Island, and Fordham in today," said J.R. Hargreaves, one of Wiggins' former AAU coaches with the Connecticut Basketball Club, on Tuesday. "Virginia, Virginia Tech, and UMass hopefully will come up tomorrow."

Wiggins has not taken any visits yet, but he is considering taking a trip this weekend.

"We wanted for the coaches to come and meet with him to try and get a feel for him before he sees any campuses," said Hargreaves. "I think what he is going to do is take a trip to UMass this weekend and then we'll go from there."

Hargreaves estimates that Wiggins will take two or three visits before he makes a decision. The player and his advisors are still debating which level would best fit the speedy lead guard.

"We've been going back and forth with Coach Leitao from Virginia," said Hargreaves. "And Coach Greenberg from Virginia Tech is very interested in him. We're just trying to figure out whether the ACC is the right level for him. Right now, the Atlantic 10 looks like it could be the best level for him."

Wiggins appeared in 31 games for the Huskies during the 2007-2008 season, averaging 6.7 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 18.9 minutes.
