NYC Guard Chooses A School

An update on the status of New York City guard Vernon Teel ...

Bill Bayno has his second New York City recruit.

Loyola Marymount struck in the Big Apple again on Wednesday when Vernon Teel, a 6-foot-4, 189-pound freshman combo guard at Chipola Junior College in Marianna, Fla., and native of Flushing, N.Y. committed to Loyola Marymount.

Vernon joins former Seton Hall guard Larry Davis, a Christ the King alum who opted to transfer into the West Coast Conference program last month.

Teel confirmed the commitment on Wednesday.

Teel took an official visit to the school last weekend. He had previously visited Louisiana Tech officially. Oklahoma St. and Kentucky had also been in contact with Teel.

A pure scorer, Teel averaged 8.7 points on a loaded Chipola team that took seventh place at the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship.

Teel played at Flushing High School in Queens. He did a fifth year of high school at the Laurinburg Institute (N.C.).
