Chuck Martin Delivers Again For Marist

Reporter Frank Mantesta has a commitment story for Marist ...

New Marist head coach Chuck Martin is moving quickly. But what is good news for the Marist fans is that he is moving wisely as well.

Alex Vouyoukas, the 6-foot-9, 225-pound senior forward from Blair Academy in New Jersey committed to Marist.

Alex spent his first season in America by way of Greece this past year. Alex was originally signed to play at Davidson but did not meet Davidson's academic standard. His SAT score was over 1100 so picking a school with good academics as well was important to him. He got both with Marist and their new head man.

Vouyoukas is a very skilled player with a high Basketball IQ. He is a typical European player. He can step out and hit the three ball. Coach Joe Mantegna from Blair Academy stated: "He has a high skill level. He is a very good passer. The kind of kid I wish we could have for a few more years."

Mantegna added: "This was a great spot for Alex. Chuck Martin will do a great job with him especially since both will be new to the program."

Alex also had interest from Wichita State, Loyola (Maryland), Loyola (Illinois) and Western Kentucky. But after visiting Marist and Coach Martin over the weekend he felt like that was the right spot for him.
