SOUTH JAMAICA, NEW YORK -- Iona recruit Scott Machado helped direct a balanced New York Elite offense in its 89-71 playoff victory over the Metro Hawks at IS8 today.

Machado, a nifty guard who challenges the big trees inside the paint with drives to the rim, scored 17 points in the win. The Elite held a 22-12 advantage after the first eight minutes of play. The lead was 43-34 at the half but ballooned to 73-55 heading into the fourth quarter.

The four guard offense created too many problems for the Metro Hawks while outstanding forward Tristan Thompson electrified the crowd with some rim-rocking dunks. Thompson finished the game with 16 points.

Zack Rosen was also effective from the lead guard position. He scored 14 points while Gerardo Suero added 15 and George Beamon scored 14 points for Chris Phillips and Eric Jaklitsch's Elite team.

The Elite advance into the quarterfinals to be held tomorrow at IS8.
