Duquesne Recruit Showcases Game At IS8

A player profile update on Duquesne recruit B.J. Monteiro ...

PLAYER PROFILE: B.J. Monterio

HEIGHT: 6-foot-5

WEIGHT: 205 Pounds

CLASS: 2008, A current senior

HIGH SCHOOL: Crosby High School in Waterbury, Connecticut

POSITIONS: Shooting Guard/Small Forward

AAU TEAMS: Connecticut Elite/Connecticut Basketball Club

B.J.'S LAST EVENT: IS8 Spring League playoffs in South Jamaica, New York. Reporter Mike Sullivan was on hand to watch B.J. play this past Sunday in the quarterfinals against the New York Elite.

B.J. impressed us again as he went up against the talented Tristan Thompson, who has given a commitment to Texas. Monteiro scored 23 points to lead his team. He showed a high skill level, enough of a balanced game to keep his defender honest.

B.J. has enough talent to score on the next level too as he went up against many players that will be facing him on the next level.

PREVIOUS COLLEGE INTERESTS: Northeastern, George Mason, St. Bonaventure, Fordham, Penn State, St. Joseph's

STRENGTHS: Scoring with the ball, ballhandling, mid-range jumper

AREA TO IMPROVE; Strength

PREVIOUS EVALUATION: B.J. does a lot of solid things on the court on both ends of the floor. He is a consummate team player not at all interested in individual glory. He just tries to help his team win basketball games and the Connecticut Basketball Club won many at IS8 in the Fall League.

He can score and has an above average mid-range game. Once in a while he can extend his perimeter game beyond the three-point line.

*B.J. proved to us that he is ready to score as a freshman for Duquesne.
