Panthers' Guard Excites Program Director

Reporter Mike Sullivan has a story on Sterling Gibbs ...

New York Panthers' program director Gary Charles feels Sterling Gibbs is going to be a terrific player by the time he becomes a senior. The 5-foot-9 guard from Seton Hall Prep in New Jersey is a 2011 prospect.

"He keeps getting better and he's still so young," said Charles. "I'm looking forward to watching him play this summer."

Gibbs has already competed for the New York Panthers in the Rumble in the Bronx. Gibbs dropped in 20 points in the Gold Division championship game against the New York Gauchos. He looked comfortable competing against the very talented Gauchos team.

"When you can do it against great competition, you know the player is something special," said Charles.

It is certainly early in Gibbs' recruiting process. "I think by the time the summer ends we'll have a better idea of who will be offering and who is serious," said Charles. "You have to remember he's only a rising sophomore."

The area Big East schools -- Rutgers, Seton Hall, St. John's, Connecticut, etc -- have certainly been interested in Gibbs, according to Charles.

"He's been impressive already at such a young age," said Charles. "He's got three years to get himself ready for the next level. He's going to be special."
