Gauchos Clear Pool Play Without A Loss

Reporter Mike Sullivan has a story on the pool play of the New York Gauchos ...

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLORIDA -- The pool competition for the New York City Gauchos rarely presented the highly regarded basketball program with any challenges so far at the 16 and under Showcase.

The Gauchos breezed through its final pool game with a 74-44 victory over the Charlotte Kings. Keith and Kevin Smith used the bench for most of the game to let everyone break a sweat.

"It gets harder after this," said Keith Smith.

It will. The playoffs being and the Gauchos will need a big effort from high quality prospect Doron Lamb of Bishop Loughlin High School in Brooklyn, N.Y.

"It's great to be here and have a chance to win games," said Lamb. "I just want a chance to win it all."

Lamb is a 2010 prospect that has many high division one programs offering him. He isn't interested in picking a leader though he has stated in the past that Syracuse was his dream school.

The coaching staff of Syracuse has been on hand to watch Lamb compete for the first couple of days here at Disney World. "I'm open," Lamb said. "I'm just focusing on trying to help my team win here."

The Gauchos have many other quality players on the roster to help them win more games. Sandro Carrissimo has done a terrific job shooting the ball from the outside. Melsahn Basabe, a 6-foot-7 forward from St. Mark's in Massachusetts, has been a terror on the boards.

We'll highlight more of the roster as the week goes on since the Gauchos will be competing in the next event too -- the 17 and under Showcase.
