Johnson Sparks Gauchos To Quarterfinal Win

Reporter Mike Sullivan has camped out inside the Milk House to watch the key playoff games at Disney World ...

Sean Johnson, a 6-foot-2 guard from Christ the King High School in Middle Village, N.Y., sparked the New York City Gauchos AAU team to an important quarterfinal victory, 69-51, over the Arkansas Wings.

The 17 and under Super Showcase held inside the Milk House at the Wide World of Sports Complex on the grounds of Disney World features some of the top players from across the country. And Johnson is proving he is one of the best rising seniors in the New York area.

Johnson scored 17 points to lead the Gauchos attack.

The Gauchos led at the half, 38-22. The lead ballooned to 57-33 heading into the final quarter.

Tevin Baskin chipped in with 10 points while Taaj Ridley also contributed 10. Durand Scott sat out the second half after suffering a bruise on his right leg. He finished the game with 10 points too.

But this was a game in which Sean Johnson showed his skill level is improving. He is more consistent on finishing his drives to the basket. He is likely to land several division one scholarships once this July period concludes.

When asked about his players for next year, he said matter of factly, "Well, there is Sean."

Schools like Fordham, Seton Hall, Manhattan, George Mason, and St. John's had been following his progress and all of these schools have watched him compete this summer.
