NJABC Guard Is Solid Division One Prospect

Reporter Mike Sullivan has an update on the summer of Steve Rennard ...

As with any successful high school or AAU program, there are some players that get overlooked. Well, we don't want to do that with Steve Rennard of St. Joe's in Metuchen, New Jersey.

Steve played with Matthew Pauls' fine AAU team, NJABC, over the summer. And the 6-foot-1, 170-pound guard impressed us throughout the month of July.

Rennard is a gritty player with a smooth perimeter stroke. He's also pretty smart in the classroom so he has ample opportunities both athletically and academically.

According to Pauls, Rennard has interest from Princeton, Penn, Cornell, Massachusetts, Fordham and Brown. "Princeton and Penn are recruiting him extremely hard," said Pauls. "...he has a 4.0 GPA."

Due to his solid July play, the interest level has grown for Rennard too. So he has a wide range of schools to choose from, depending upon how intense he wants an academic challenge.

"He is an excellent shooter, tremendous on the ball defender, and comfortably slides over to the lead guard position and does a nice job running the team," said Pauls.

The highly regarded AAU head coach also added: "(Steve's) a true "guard" that just plays the game the right way."

Steve has taken unofficial visits to Princeton and Penn. Cornell and Brown are working hard to get him to visit this Fall.
