Former Cardozo Player Still Set For Big East

Reporter Mike Sullivan spoke to Cardozo head coach Ron Naclerio ...

James Southerland, a skilled 6-foot-7 forward from Notre Dame Prep in Massachusetts, is still set for Syracuse University, according to his former high school coach Ron Naclerio.

Naclerio is coaching in the Boost Mobile Elite 24 game to be held tonight at Rucker Park in Harlem, N.Y. "He's going to take another year at Notre Dame Prep and then he's going to Syracuse," said Naclerio.

There had been a published report saying Southerland was thinking about changing his mind.

Since day one, Naclerio has been positive about Southerland and his individual game. "He has the skill level to be a big time player," said Naclerio. "It's working on other areas that will help him down the road."

Southerland also competed in Jim Hart's Albany City Rocks AAU program. Hart has also praised Southerland's game, saying, "I didn't know how good he was until I saw him..."

WHAT RON NACLERIO SAID PREVIOUSLY ABOUT JAMES SOUTHERLAND'S GAME:

"James can improve his ballhandling. Use both hands more on his drives to the basket. Mix it up more, give the defender something to think about on what his next move will be. Keep the defender flat-footed more."
