2011 Trenton Catholic Prospect Worth Watching

Reporter Mike Sullivan continues his look at some of the high quality recruits from the state of New Jersey. Today, he profiles Khalid Lewis of Trenton Catholic High School ...

Profiling an underclassman is always difficult. It's hard to project where a prospect levels out physically and skill wise. For most players, the skill level is ahead of the physical part of their individual games.

For Khalid Lewis, a 6-foot-3, 170-pound combo guard from Trenton Catholic High School in Trenton, New Jersey, his AAU coach Matt Paul is excited about his physical skills at such a young age.

Lewis, a 2011 prospect, is a rising sophomore. "He's had a great summer," said Paul, who led a group of 16 and under NJABC team to the semifinals of the Super Showcase in Disney World last month.

Lewis attained a couple of eye-opening honors over the summer. "He made the all-star teams at Adidas Phenom 150 Class of 2011 and the Eastern Invitational," said a proud Paul.

As a freshman, Khalid was an important member of the Trenton Catholic basketball program. He averaged eight points. "He was a lock down defender," said Paul. "He is also one of the best rebounding guards for his size."

Obviously, it's very early in his recruiting process. He has a couple of seasons to first improve areas of his game before schools will get serious about offering scholarships.

But it's important to note that a smattering of colleges/universities from the Big East, Atlantic Ten (Fordham, ex), MAAC and NEC schools are expressing early interest.
