Pennington Guard Can Also Play Football

Reporter Mike Sullivan has the opportunity to detail the athletic life of The Pennington School's Anthony Gaffney ...

Anthony Gaffney, a 6-foot-2, 170-pound shooting guard/small forward from the Pennington School in Pennington, New Jersey, is blessed with athletic ability and with the skill level to be successful in two sports.

"He improved tremendously over the past year," said his AAU coach Matt Paul of NJABC.

Gaffney made the all-star team at Eastern Invitational, and was a high honorable mention at Adidas Phenom 150 Class of 2011.

"Anthony had a strong freshman year at The Pennington School as a starter," said Paul. He averaged approximately 11 points a game and six rebounds."

For his effort, Gaffney was named all prep 2nd team by the Trentonian.

In addition, Anthony is a talented football player. He plays on both sides of the ball -- defensive back and wide receiver. He could end up at the quarterback slot this season. Last year, he was a starter as a freshman.

He's an outstanding student too, opening up many more options for himself down the road. It's likely early on, at least, the Ivy League and Patriot League programs will watch him carefully over the next few seasons.
