Rising Sophomore Is Skilled Near The Rim

Reporter Mike Sullivan details the individual inside game of 2011 prospect Robbie Ashamole from the state of New Jersey ...

You hear the battle cry from college coaches all the time, especially during the month of July, the evaluation period that drives them so crazy in locating the proper prospects for their respective programs.

"We need size but you can't teach size."

So when an underclassmen is located that has size, it's wise to keep an eye on the recruit's progress.

It's likely that if Robbie Ashamole from St. Joseph's in Metuchen, New Jersey has a solid sophomore season this basketball campaign, then he'll have plenty of interest from division one programs.

Robbie is a 6-foot-7, 200-pound sophomore front court player. "He's a power forward who is physically gifted, and is a rebounding machine," said his NJABC AAU head coach Matt Paul.

Paul realizes it's early in his development but having his size and frame right now has to give him benefits in handling the low post play.

"He's tough and physical, his upside is great," said Paul. "He had a strong summer on the AAU circuit and he'll be a key player for Coach Dave Turco at St. Joe's (Metuchen).
