Gorton HS Senior Could Be D-1 Prospect

Reporter Mike Sullivan had a chance to speak to Rob Rizzo, the new head coach at Gorton High School in Yonkers, New York. Rizzo speaks about a player who has impressed him so far in the early workouts ...

Rob Rizzo is no stranger to coaching high quality talent. He did so a couple years ago when he led the Westchester Hawks team to several titles. The Hawks featured such high division talent like Kevin Jones, Mookie Jones, and Tyshawn Taylor.

Rizzo spent last season as an assistant coach at St. Anthony's High School in Jersey City, New Jersey. This year he'll be a head coach again. "I had a great opportunity to coach at Gorton High School in Yonkers," Rizzo said. "I'm excited about the opportunity."

Rizzo is also excited about a senior guard he has on his roster this season in Chris Ranglin, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound shooting guard.

"He's strong, rebounds, can shoot it when given an opening, and is an exceptional passer," said Rizzo.

Ranglin was an All Section I selection last season while competing at Gorton High School.

"He's physical because of his build," said Rizzo. "But he's also a good defender. So he does a little bit of everything on the court."

Rizzo believes that because Ranglin wasn't on the AAU circuit that he may fall under the radar screen, especially for low division one programs. "A school like a St. Francis or a Sacred Heart might be the right level for him," he said. "Certainly a high division two program."

Ranglin is also a very good student. "He's already got the score, so he's set academically," Rizzo stated.
