Rizzo: Mookie Jones Excited About Syracuse

Some fond memories were spoken about last night during an interview with Rob Rizzo, the former head coach of the Westchester Hawks. Rizzo, the new head coach at Gorton High School in Yonkers, N.Y., remembered fondly some wonderful victories and times while coaching players like Mookie Jones.

Mookie has moved on to Syracuse but Rizzo still speaks and sees the 6-foot-7 Orange freshman. "We had some players up at the Syracuse Elite camp last week," Rizzo said. "It was great to see him. He looks great."

Rizzo said Jones loves being at Syracuse. "He is enjoying his time there," Rizzo said. "He likes the school and the coaches. Coach Jim Boeheim was involved with Mookie's recruiting a lot so that says something for him and his future."

Rizzo isn't sure how much playing time Mookie will land at Syracuse. "It's like any freshman," he said. "He'll have to earn it and beat out players who have been there longer."

Rizzo has plenty of faith in Jones though. "I think his biggest problem is adding some weight and eating the right things," he said.

"Once he gets stronger he's going to be fine. He was a great player for us. You never forget that and you always have a fondness for the memories."

So it's now up to Mookie to make some better memories at Syracuse. "He'll do it," said a confident Rizzo.
