To excel in one sport on the high school level is challenging enough. But to be an impact player in two, well, that's exceptional.

Such is the case in discussing the athletic career of Anthony Gaffney, a 6-foot-2, 170-pound shooting guard/small forward from the Pennington School in Pennington, New Jersey.

His AAU coach, Matt Pauls, of NJABC, felt Gaffney improved enough to keep an eye on him when he bounces the basketball this winter. Gaffney will be a sophomore, a member of the 2011 class.

"Anthony made the all-star team at Eastern Invitational and was a high honorable mention at Adidas Phenom 150 Class of 2011," Pauls said.

Gaffney averaged 11 points and six rebounds as a freshman. He was named second team all prep by the local newspaper, the Trentonian.

A wide receiver and defensive back, Gaffney possesses great speed. He is also skilled enough to possibly play the quarterback position.

Early on, Ivy League and Patriot League programs are watching too since he is an excellent student. He's certainly a candidate to play two sports in college.

"He has many options in his future," said Pauls.
