Pauls: Dontae Johnson Hits Them Like A Truck

Reporter Mike Sullivan profiles the sports career of football/basketball star Dontae Johnson. He had a chance to speak to AAU head coach Matt Pauls about Johnson's skill level in both sports ...

Dontae Johnson, a 6-foot-4, 190-pound forward from The Pennington School in Pennington, New Jersey, is a player NJABC AAU head coach Matt Pauls is excited about for several reasons.

"He can play two sports very well," said Pauls.

Johnson, a 2010 prospect, is a junior this season and has impressed Pauls with his basketball skills too. "But he already has some of the top football programs recruiting him," Pauls said.

Johnson is a safety and wide receiver. He possesses terrific speed, knocking off the 40 in 4.5 seconds.

Dontae loves to punish players too with his frame. "Like a truck," said Pauls, when describing the violent hits Johnson likes to dish out.

Rutgers, Maryland, Penn State, Oregon, Michigan State, Miami, Wake Forest, Michigan, and Ohio State have expressed interest in Johnson.

Perhaps Dontae might be a player that walks on for one sport and plays another. "It could happen," Pauls said. "He's improving every year in basketball too."
