Deer Park Senior Prospect Thrives At IS8

Josh Malone, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard/small forward from Deer Park High School in Deer Park, N.Y., has been a bright spot for the Unique All Stars in the IS8 Fall League held in South Jamaica, New York.

Unique All Stars head coach Torrel Harris said Malone is a big reason why his team won three of its four pool games. The only loss came in the last seconds against the Juice All Stars and Lance Stephenson.

"Josh has been playing well at IS8," said Harris. "Josh's last game against Lehigh Valley he scored scored 22 points, had six steals, five assists and six rebounds."

Malone's balanced game is likely to attract some division one schools over the next few months.

"Josh is a very good player who did not play on the AAU circuit this summer due to his parent's schedule," Harris said. "(They're) a very close knit family who travel together."

Harris says he's impressed with several aspects of his game. "Josh can shoot, has a good ball handle, drives to the basket well," he said. "He's also a very tough defender."

A solid student, Josh has interest from Siena, Stony Brook, Fairfield, and Columbia, according to Harris.

"In my opinion if Josh played in the AAU July evaluation period he would have a lot of mid level and high majors recruiting him," said Harris.
